BLACKPINK's virtual concert in PUBG MOBILE has won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Metaverse Performance! With over 5.7 million views from viewers all around the world, BLACKPINK's The Virtual Concert received the most votes on MTV and triumphed against five nominees and win the award!
MTV introduced "Best Metaverse Performance" last month in order to support virtual concerts in video games, especially during the period of the global pandemic. As a newly-added category in MTV, there are six artists and groups being nominated for Best Metaverse Performance, including Ariana Grande's headlining performance at the Fortnite Rift Tour, BLACKPINK's virtual concert in PUBG MOBILE, BTS's performance in Minecraft, Charli XCX's appearance in Roblox, Justin Bieber's interactive virtual experience in Wave, and Twenty One Pilots' concert in Roblox.
"We saw the opportunity to highlight and honor some of the best, most impactful executions of this - and celebrate artists who have found creative ways to use these spaces - which led to the addition of [the] Best Metaverse Performance category this year," MTV said.
The video marks BlackPink's first virtual performance, and it's also the first time PUBG MOBILE hosting an in-game concert. In this collaboration, fans are able to see BlackPink appearing in the form of avatars and performing their hit song Virtual For Love in the PUBG MOBILE universe, which contains various iconic scenes and locations from this popular battle royale game.
