Epic Games' popular battle royale game, Fortnite, is scheduled to return to the iOS platform in the United Kingdom in the year 2025. While it's not immediate, it's considered significant news. This return is a result of long-standing issues between Epic Games' CEO, Tim Sweeney, and Apple, but evolving laws in the European Union and the United Kingdom have paved the way for Fortnite's renewed presence on iPhone.

This means that regular players in the UK will be able to access Fortnite without resorting to workarounds or unofficial methods by the latter half of 2025. This impacts dominant companies like Apple and Google as it indicates the shifting currents against their practices.

It raises the pertinent question if Epic Games challenged Apple in 2020 by incorporating a direct purchase option of V-Bucks, Fortnite's in-game currency, bypassing Apple or Google.

The fallout was a colossal public dispute. Epic Games, particularly Tim Sweeney, took a stand exaggeratedly. The Epic's parody of Apple's 1984 ad questioned the validity of Apple's 30% fee on in-app purchases.

While Sweeney is not the unchallenged hero of mobile gaming, the aftermath did provoke public appeal and legislative scrutiny. As of now, Fortnite is gradually making its way back to mobile platforms via a third party, their own upcoming mobile store, or through domestic law changes.
