Godaan, a narrative of stark realism, is Premchand's most outstanding novel. It is regarded as among the best Hindustani novels of contemporary Indian literature and was printed in 1936. Themed round the socio economic loss in addition to the exploitation of the hamlet poor, the novel was Premchand's last complete novel.
