If eating together at a table in the kitchen is important to you, make sure that's part of your kitchen design. Many families prefer the freedom of a kitchen island where everyone can gather around the cook, pull up a stool and chat. If you want an island, it needs to be built in now.

There are so many options to consider when planning a kitchen design. Your countertops can be any of hundreds of surfaces from granite to cement to everything in between. Your flooring has double the options and every imaginable color and texture under the sun.
