বিশ্ব ইতিহাসে প্রথম মানুষ ও প্রথম নবী হিসাবে আল্লাহ পাক আদম (আলাইহিস সালাম)-কে নিজ দু’হাত দ্বারা সরাসরি সৃষ্টি করেন (ছোয়াদ ৩৮/৭৫)। মাটির সকল উপাদানের সার-নির্যাস একত্রিত করে আঠালো ও পোড়ামাটির ন্যায় শুষ্ক মাটির তৈরী সুন্দরতম অবয়বে রূহ ফুঁকে দিয়ে আল্লাহ আদমকে সৃষ্টি করেছেন।

অতঃপর আদমের পাঁজর থেকে তাঁর স্ত্রী হাওয়াকে সৃষ্টি করেন। আর এ কারণেই স্ত্রী জাতি স্বভাবগত ভাবেই পুরুষ জাতির অনুগামী ও পরস্পরের প্রতি আকৃষ্ট। অতঃপর স্বামী-স্ত্রীর মাধ্যমে যুগ যুগ ধরে একই নিয়মে মানববংশ বৃদ্ধির ধারা অব্যাহত রয়েছে। কুরআন-এর বর্ণনা অনুযায়ী প্রথম দিন থেকেই মানুষ পূর্ণ চেতনা ও জ্ঞান সম্পন্ন সভ্য মানুষ হিসাবেই যাত্রারম্ভ করেছে এবং আজও সেভাবেই তা অব্যাহত রয়েছে। অতএব গুহামানব, বন্যমানব, আদিম মানব ইত্যাদি বলে অসভ্য যুগ থেকে সভ্য যুগে মানুষের উত্তরণ ঘটেছে বলে কিছু কিছু ঐতিহাসিক যেসব কথা শুনিয়ে থাকেন, তা অলীক কল্পনা ব্যতীত কিছুই নয়। সূচনা থেকে এযাবত এই দীর্ঘ পথ পরিক্রমায় মানুষ কখনোই মানুষ ব্যতীত অন্য কিছু ছিল না। মানুষ বানর বা উল্লুকের উদ্বর্তিত রূপ বলে ঊনবিংশ শতাব্দীতে এসে চার্লস ডারউইন (১৮০৯-১৮৮২) যে ‘বিবর্তনবাদ’ (Theory of Evolution) পেশ করেছেন, তা বর্তমানে একটি মৃত মতবাদ মাত্র এবং তা প্রায় সকল বিজ্ঞানী কর্তৃক প্রত্যাখ্যাত হয়েছে।

In the Genesis creation narratives, he was created by God. Christian churches differ on how they view Adam's subsequent behavior of disobeying God (often called the Fall of man), and to the consequences that those actions had on the rest of humanity. Christian and Jewish teachings sometimes hold Adam and Eve (the first woman) to a different level of responsibility for the Fall, though Islamic teaching holds both equally responsible. In addition, Islam holds that Adam was eventually forgiven, while Christianity holds that redemption occurred only later through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. The Bahá'í Faith, Islam and some Christian denominations consider Adam to be the first prophet.
