Communism is a theoretical social and economic system based on social equality, public ownership of the means of production.

In practice, such a system never existed, but the term "communist state" was used by the Western press to the USSR and to countries that declared themselves or were considered socialist. The term "primitive communism" is used to describe the device of pre-class tribal society (in the Soviet historical terminology - "primitive communal system"). According to the works of the founders of Marxism, communism presupposes the existence of highly developed productive forces, the absence of division of society into social classes, the state and money; all this is based on the abolition of private ownership of the means of production. The principle prevails: "Everyone - according to his abilities, each - according to his needs!". Also "communism" is called ideology, proclaiming its goal to build a communist society and based on the Leninist interpretation of Marxism.
