The earthbeat enables user friendly design of data collection protocols using the GPS and and camera capabilities of the Android device (mobile phone) and simple menu based input of other information. Data can be collected while on- or off-line, and are uploaded to a central server automatically once internet connection is available. The web based database enables subsequent analysis of data and generation of reports. The use of GPS to determine the location and of photos to document the situation enables for efficient validation of data and information collected. The application uses a pre-downloaded topographic map of a conservation area with marked zones.
