ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

A keen observer, brilliant draftsman and controversial contemporary – the French artist Honoré Daumier is one of the most fascinating personalities of the 19th century. He became known for his over 4,000 lithographs for newspapers - caricatures that testify to his sense of freedom and his critical and humane view of the circumstances of the time. The Städel Museum presents Daumier using the outstanding holdings of Prof. Dr. Hans-Jürgen Hellwig, which impresses with its quality and comprehensive breadth.
