SSKJ, spelling and other dictionaries of the Slovene language

Visit and test portal Fran using the new application.

FRAN is the Slovene portal of the Institute for the Slovene Language Fran Ramovš ZRC SAZU, where basic language manuals for Slovene are available to users.

Searching through the manuals is quick, easy and free. Are you interested in the SSKJ or eSSKJ, information about the Spelling or ePublise entry? Synonyms, Phrasems, Bondage? New Slovene words? Are you interested in etymology, history, terminology or the use of a particular word in dialects? You can find all this with the help of Fran.

We can search for all manuals, selected manuals, or one by one at the same time.

Contains:

• more than 35 dictionaries,

• language atlas,

• linguistic and terminological counseling,

• portal of Slovenian grammar and spelling and other collections.

We do not need a special knowledge to use the portal, since Fran searches the data from the manuals and makes it helpful in their interpretation. Search results complement each other and show us the properties and uses of each word from different perspectives.

Fran is interactive. Through the portal, you can suggest reading new words and voting for them, asking your language advisors for advice, or suggesting an update, a correction of existing dictionary assemblies.

Fran grows, since it is upgraded once a year with new language content.
