In addition to standard applications and applets, web applications can also be created using the Java programming language. Java opens up the possibility of dynamically generating a website only when requested and providing users with current information tailored to their respective needs. Typical areas of application include online banking, online shops, conducting auctions and displaying information (stock prices, weather forecasts, etc.). How such applications are implemented using special Java-based technologies (Servlets, JSP (JavaServer Pages), JSF (JavaServer Faces) and Struts) is the subject of this course.

The course is aimed at web developers and programmers who want to acquire skills in the field of Java-based web applications. Solid Java skills as well as knowledge of HTML and website development are required.

Once you have successfully completed the course, you should be able to develop small to medium complex Java web applications and deploy them to a server for use. You have an understanding of the basic technologies and a solid and broad overview of advanced techniques such as the use of the JSF and Struts frameworks. Based on this, you should no longer have any difficulties deepening your knowledge independently and using new frameworks.

The written exam can be written online or at a FernUniversität Hagen campus location of your choice. Once you pass the exam, you will receive a university certificate. Students can also have earned ECTS points certified for a Certificate of Basic Studies.
