The standards has introduced in August 2014, two new European standards for lift design and manufacture will bring considerablebenefits in terms of accessibility and safety for both passengers and service engineers.

The first, EN 81-20:2014, sets outrevised and updated safety requirements for the construction and installation of lifts. The second, EN 81-50:2014, defines the test and examination requirements for certain lift components.
