Objective of the game

It consists of forming, each player in his hand, combinations of three or more cards, to surpass before the opposing player, in several partial games, the 100 points required to win the game.

Deck of cards

It is played with an English deck of 52 cards, and jokers cannot be used. It is convenient to use two decks, so that, while one player deals the cards, the opposing player shuffles the other.

Number of players

Gin Rummy is an ideal game for two players, and can also be played between three or four people.

Card order and value

• The order of the cards, from highest to lowest, is: King (K), Queen (Q), Jack (J), ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, and ace.

• As for their value, the figures are worth 10 points and the other cards, the value indicated by their index.

Distribution of the cards

• The deck is spread out on the table and each player takes a card.

• The player who takes the highest card chooses a place and deals, one at a time, ten cards to each player, leaving the deck with the remaining ones in the center of the table.

• The top card of the deck is left face up next to it, starting the discard pile. In the following games, the one who won the previous game will deal the cards.

Start and go of the game

• The player who did not deal the cards begins, being able to take, if it suits him, the card that was revealed next to the deck, necessarily discarding one card. If said card does not interest him, he passes, without discarding.

• The opposing player can, in turn, take said card, discarding another, and if he is not interested, pass without discarding. Then, the first player can already take the top card of the deck, discarding another. The game continues, each player being able, in his turn, to take the top card of the deck or the one from the discard pile, discarding a card, which cannot be the same one that he took if he did it from the discard pile.

• The game consists of grouping the 10 cards that you have in your hand in minimum combinations of three, forming series of equal cards or runs of the same suit. The ace can combine with the two, but not with the king (K). A player can knock down when he has left in his hand, without combining, cards with a total value not exceeding 10 points, making Knock. At the moment of making his last discard, he exposes all his cards, calling the number of points he has left without combining. It is not mandatory to knock, being able to prolong the game, in order to improve your play. The best move is to make Gin and it consists of exposing the ten combined cards.

• In either case, when knocking down, he will expose all his cards, doing the same to the opposing player, who will have the opportunity to get rid of those cards that remain uncombined and that can link with the combined cards of the game exposed by the player. that he killed with Knock or with Gin. A partial game will also end when there are only two cards left in the deck, nullifying said game and redistributing the cards to the same player.

• When a player makes Gin he wins the partial game while if a player makes Knock, he or the opposing player can win it. He wins it, if the value of his unmatched cards is less than that of the opponent's unmatched cards and the opponent wins it if the value of his unmatched cards is equal to or less than the ones that called the Knock.

• The cards of the player opposite to the one who made the Gin or Knock will be valued after having taken advantage of the opportunity to get rid of the cards that he had without combining and that link with the combined ones of the exposed game by which he made one of the two plays.
