Since the dawn of time man has gazed up at the stars in wonder, then with the invention of the telescope we set out on our path to discovery within our universe. Then in 1957 the Russians launched the first manmade object into space which lead to the space race in the 1960's which saw the first man on the moon by the end of the decade.

Then came the space stations Salyut, Almaz, and Skylab (1971–1986) and Mir [1986-2001] today we have the international space station ISS (1998–present) and the Chinese Tiangong (2011–present)

To date we have sent probes to all of the planets in our solar system,‎Mercury‎; ‎Venus‎; ‎Earth‎; ‎Mars‎;Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, and most recently the dwarf planet pluto with the new horizens probe.The search goes on for the hyperthetical planet X but maybe it will be discovered in the near future.

Mars has recieved 47 probes to date with only a couple of sucessful landers, and the viking probes being the furthest travelled having now entered interstellar space.

Since the retirement of the space shuttles Columbia, Challenger, Discovery, Atlantis, and Endeavour there a lot of new names all looking for a piece of space;-SpaceX, Blue Origin, Virgin Galactic, Bigelow Aerospace, Orbital Sciences, SpaceDev to name a few with many more worldwide.
