Different Drummer Lite is a feature-rich percussion synthesizer. It's the try-and-buy version of Different Drummer, and includes:

* Over 50 different instruments, both synthesized and using high-quality samples

* Two different screen layouts: Standard Drum Kit and The Whole Kit and Kaboodle

* 6 different sound effects, which can be applied singly or in combination, including sliders that control how the effects sound

* 10 different effects presets, allowing one-button changes from one effect setting to another

* An eleventh effects "reset" button that allows you to easily turn off all effects

* Multi-touch capability (up to 10 simultaneous screen touches, depending on the device)

* A microphone input (which, in the paid version of Different Drummer, can be used for capturing environmental and background sounds, voice input, etc., while at the same time recording the percussion sounds created using the touch screen)

* Separate volume controls for the drum kit and the mic input

* Percussion sounds can be easily looped

The control sliders on Different Drummer Lite are all fully operational, but they do work slightly differently than on the full version of the app. (Hint: when you touch a slider to change its value, make sure you touch in the MIDDLE of the slider. You can let go of the slider anywhere within its range, top to bottom. If you initiate a touch on any of the sliders above one of the "Buy It Now!" icons, you will be redirected to Google Play.)

Different Drummer Lite will not be as full-featured as the full version, in general. Currently, it does not have any of the Chaos Generators that the full version has. (The full version, currently Different Drummer 2.1, has two Chaos Generators, one for percussion sounds, and the other for plucked string sounds.)

Also, as you might guess, it is really handy to be able to record your efforts directly to your phone or tablet. With Different Drummer versions 2.1, 2.2, and above, with the recording ability, it is possible to generate audio of sufficient complexity that your efforts could be part of a film score, for example.

On the full version of Different Drummer, you could also easily create your own rap or hip hop tune, by using the microphone input and playing on your drum kit (especially if you set up a loop using the echo effect with the amplitude set somewhere around max).
