Een Jyotirlinga is een devotionele object dat de Allerhoogste God Shiva. Jyoti betekent 'uitstraling' en lingam de 'Image of Sign' van Shiva; Jyotir Lingam betekent dus de The Radiant teken van The Almighty Shiva. Er zijn twaalf traditionele Jyotirlinga heiligdommen in India, 6 van hen in Maharashtra.
