The Spirit is a person and not just a force. But when we start page one of the Bible, even before creation begins, we see a representation of God's spirit hovering over the dark and disorderly waters of the earth, ready to start spreading goodness and creation. In the Bible, whenever we see a description of the spirit of God, as described in the first verses of the Bible, the Hebrew word "ruakh" is used. Ruakh can describe an invisible and powerful energy and is necessary for life, making "The Spirit" an apt description for the Spirit of God.

Certainly, religious leaders at the time saw these actions as a threat and killed Jesus. Still, however, the spirit of God is at work. When the disciples saw that Jesus had risen from the grave, they proclaimed that He shone with the spirit of God.

When Jesus appeared to His closest followers, He breathed on them the Holy Spirit, enabling them also to spread the goodness of God throughout the world. Shortly thereafter, God's spirit comes upon all His followers. Today, through Christ and the power He has given to his followers, the spirit of God continues to hover over a dark and chaotic world, healing it slowly and working towards the day when it is restored to its former glory.

Espírito Santo is a wonderful person, friend, guide, counselor and teacher. He was with God the Father and Jesus at Creation, and it was through His power that the commandments of God the Father were manifested. God said there is light and the Holy Spirit has brought light and all creation.

The Holy Spirit was with Jesus in full measure while He was on this earth. He guided Jesus under the direction of God the Father in His daily life. It was through the power of the Holy Spirit and the strong desire, determination and love of Jesus that He did not sin while on earth. Jesus hated sin!

We, as Christians, need to learn about the Holy Spirit and let it move with power in our lives. It will bring us joy as we have never known it before. When faced with such an apathetic spirit, a powerful cure is to pray to the Holy Spirit. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church reminds us, [prayer] is the action of God and man, which flows from the Holy Spirit and from ourselves, totally directed to the Father, in union with the human will of the Son of God made. man (CCC 2564).
