What is the essence of repentance, until we are reminded never to ignore it? Repentance is our statement of apology to God for all the mistakes we have made intentionally or unintentionally. Because we are servants and Allah is Lord, it is indeed a consequence of the relationship between the servant and his Lord. But a statement like that is not a guarantee that tomorrow, we as human beings, will not repeat mistakes again and will not make mistakes which, ironically, is human nature. In order to repent spiritually, one must be conscious of God, aware of what one's position should be toward Him, and what one should do as a consequence of that relationship.
