Speedometer or speed meter is a gauge to measure and displays the instantaneous speed of a vehicle or your car. (Father of Computer) is credited with creating an early type of speedometer, which was usually fitted to locomotives. Whereas tachometer is an instrument which measure the working speed of an engine typically in revolutions per minute or rpm.

GPS devices are positional speedometers, their calculations is based on how far the receiver has moved since the last measurement. Speed calculations are more accurate at higher speeds.
