Founded on February 8 1693, William and Mary boasts a wealth of history as America's second oldest College, first University and Law School, and rich in Colonial and Revolutionary and Civil War History. George Washington received his surveyor’s license here at age 17, Thomas Jefferson studied and lived here at age 16, and two other US Presidents attended class here. The College was named after King William and Queen Mary of England, whom granted the College it's Royal Charter, the first to be granted in North America.
