App for blind and visually impaired users of TalkBack to check screen readers.
This app is designed for users of TalkBack and other third-party screen readers like Shine Plus.
These screen readers allow Android to be used by blind and visually impaired users of Android.
TalkBack is published by Google, and is pre-installed on most Android devices. The latest version of TalkBack can also be downloaded from Google Play store.
This app will show which screen readers are currently installed on your device, their version numbers, and whether any of them are enabled.
You will have to click the button and it will copy that information to the clipboard, and also show it on screen. You can then easily share this info with others by pasting the information into an e-mail etc.
Most devices will have TalkBack pre-installed, although it will not be enabled by default.
TalkBack users may have third-party screen readers installed as well - like Shine Plus. Usually only one screen reader will be enabled at any one time.
As an example of the info this app provides, these are the results for a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 running Android 5.0.1 with TalkBack version 4.4.1 installed, and with TalkBack also enabled, so it is running:
