Asking Alexandria originated from a band from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where the guitarist Ben Bruce started his musical career in and released an album (The Irony of Your Perfection) under the band Asking Alexandria. The band broke out and Bruce started making a band with the name of Asking Alexandria. The band never toured until its dissolution.

In 2008, Bruce returned to England and left the band and other members. Even so, Bruce has no plans to hang his musical career. And not long after his move, he started again with a new member with the name of Asking Alexandria. Bruce states in his MySpace, that he still loves it from the meaning behind the name. Therefore, however, he still likes the name and plans to create a new project. He also stated that Asking Alexandria is now different from Asking Alexandria when releasing The Irony of Your Perfection. The same statement has been emphasized in the interview and still cause confusion for the fans.

They changed the band's format from 6 to 5 with Ryan Binns out. Sam Bettley also replaced Joe Lancaster in January 2009.

After finishing 2008 and January 2009 to 'promote' the name of Asking Alexandria, they recorded their debut album on May 19 and June 16 at The Foundation Recordings Studio in Connersville, Indiana with producer Joey Sturgis. They announced that they joined Sumerian Records after completing their recording process. And the album Stand up and Scream was released on September 15, 2009 with their new label. They focus on 2009 to achieve success in the United States, such as by doing a tour with Enter Shikari, Alesana, The Bled, Evergreen Terrace, etc.
