The Athabasca Tribal Council language app translates English into Denesųłįné
The Athabasca Tribal Council (ATC) online language app translates English into Denesųłįné. Designed to be easy to use for both beginners and those with some previous knowledge of the language, it can be used for self-study or as an aid in conversation with elders who are Denesųłįné speakers. It is suitable for use by beginners, youth, and those in mid-life looking for a refresher in a language they learned in their youth.
The app’s vocabulary includes important nouns, as well as words for medicines, numbers, directions, weather, the calendar, and parts of the body. The app focuses on Denesųłįné dialects of northeastern Alberta. It also includes an overview of the Athabasca Tribal Council, as well as maps and satellite images showing the locations of its five member First Nations in North Eastern Alberta. The app is part of ATC’s commitment to teaching and preserving the indigenous languages of northeastern Alberta.
