Artist and researcher Krien Clevis has composed an exhibition, titled The Once and Future House as part of her promotion research at Leiden University (the defense of the thesis will take place on 17 October 2013) for which she used a number of media on different locations.

She built an installation in the (underground) heart of Amsterdam, inspired by the classical atrium house, entitled: Family House/Stop -2, which was meant to be built on the second parking deck of the underground parking garage of the Noord/Zuidlijn (North/South line’s) Rokin metro station (under construction). The installation even includes the metro’s bored through wall disks. The house was meant to be ‘discovered’ by the metro line builders and the visitors, as being inversely proportional (in time) to the discovery of ancient Pompeii after it was covered with volcanic ashes. Clevis researched the classical atrium house in Rome, Pompeii and Cerveteri, and the Etruscan tombs with an equal architectonic design. Fellini devotees will find some clues to the film Roma (1972) and the building of the Metro Line B in Rome. The installation was conceived, in other words, to be a new ‘ancient’ house containing art from our current era.

For the location Rokin this interactive App has been developed referring to the construction works of the metro disks, available for a varied group of visitors, inhabitants and tourists wandering on the Rokin. In collaboration with the Noord/Zuidlijn these 3D materials have been made for both this GApp and the 3D animation. Digging with your fingers on the screen you can find your way to the underground house. In the former University Library Leiden the main room of the house, Family Room/Stop -2, has been built full size. There is also shown a scale model (1:10) of the complete house. Visitors of the Leiden exhibition may connect through a QR code with the Noord/Zuidlijn. (The exhibition runs to Friday 13 December 2013, Oude UB, Rapenburg 70, Leiden).
