Papahanaumokuakea is the only heritage site which can be classified as a cultural as well as a natural heritage site and is one of the largest marine protected areas of the world. Situated in the midst of the Pacific Ocean, Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument (aka Papahanaumokuakea) is a group of small, low-lying islands and atolls geomorphologically isolated from the rest of the world. Much of the Papahanaumokuakea is made of up pelagic and deepwater habitats, with prominent sea mounts, coral reefs, lagoons, etc. It’s an embodiment of the sacred realms of life. The Midway Atoll is the site of the famous Battle of Midway.
